Monday - November 1, 2004 I've just learned from one of the members of our Yahoo Group that Chris Oldham will be on the Tennessee ballot tomorrow for 14th district House of Representatives. Mr Oldham is a motorcycle and Deal's Gap advocate who has fought for several riders, including some friends who were harrassed during the Drag Racing sting of 2002. All of his clients had their charges reduced or dismissed. He will be missed as a terrific lawyer, but will make a much better asset in the House of Representatives. Thursday - October 28, 2004 I forgot to mention that a Gap regular, David Leach, was seriously injured Saturday. Appearantly a cruiser ran wide exiting the turn between the campsite and Gravity Cavity heading toward the store. (a common crash point...it's a sharp turn at the end of a fast section) David reportedly laid his motard down and the cruiser ran over him, cutting his wrist open badly. He was flown out and spent a few days in ICU, but he is back home now under supervised care. We wish you a speedy recovery old man! Also the link I had posted to a video at the bottom of the page has been removed. I guess their server could not handle the load. (it was a Japanese URL) It was a video of a guy on a Honda Hawk running a very tight autocross style course, making some of the most incredible low-speed manuevers I've seen. If I ever find another link, I'll post it up. Thursday - October 28, 2004 Cars dominated the scene last weekend. There was a gathering of SVT Mustangs, BMW Z cars, Mini Coopers, and a handful of S2000s, Miatas, VWs and Corvettes. Most of the sportscars seemed to be driving pretty well from the section I could see, with the exception of a few in the Mustang bunch. That's disappointing because they have been driving well in previous visits...I hope they find this disturbing and encourage new members to be more respectful...as we all should. (I'm in a tough position here...trying to encourage responsibility so we can all enjoy the road with minimal babysitting by the local enforcement...don't hate me) First up is the scariest shot I've taken all year...even the semis don't scare me as much as this Camaro. Appearantly someone approached the driver down at the store afterwards and let him know that we had pictures and video of this pass but he didn't seem too concerned...saying something to the effect of "[cars in the wrong lane] is a risk everyone takes using this road." He eventually apologized, and seemed to comprehend the danger he placed himself and others in....it's still scary to think that something like that has to happen for the driver to realize the consequences of his actions, but we all appreciate you seeing the error of your ways. For anyone who still doesn't see what the big deal is, keep in mind that there are people's Grandparents, sons, daughters, parents, GIRLFRIENDS out there riding motorcycles. There would be very little restraint in my retaliation if someone hurt or killed my girlfriend by driving in this manner. "Hey that guy's taking our picture!" Whoohoo! We weren't certain about this guy's sobriety. - This time of year makes for a colorful backdrop. Slick rides I got behind this stack of cars on the way through...I can't tell you how intimidating it was to be looking up at a stack of cars. Beautiful paint - Beautiful outfit Oh the drama! I'm betting they met in the hair care aisle. =) I hope that's not a leash..."poor little fella...probably tried to keep up as long as his little legs could..." - My boy Tyson made a few passes in his girl's turbo Miata. You can leave comments on these photos in the Imagestation album here. Got a few links this week...if you need some parts for your bike, there are finally some options. MRCycles has a good selection of new parts, and GDLCycles has some used parts to pick through. |
