Shots from Miata Weekend - July 25-26 available here! 7-30-03 Don't forget the free, full-res digitals from Miata weekend are available here. If you want prints, you'll have to order those through the store. 7-30-03 Took a while to sort those, thanks for being patient. Everything went pretty well during the Miata meet. Didn't seem to be as many as I expected, but there were a couple hundred. There was a nice mix of cars and bikes...I even got to see the new Mazda Rx-8 for the first time in person. We took off Sunday. I did a little riding, then went down to Smokey Mountain Jetboat tours and let them take me for a ride. You ever have something happen so intense, you almost forgot what happened earlier? Ok, maybe it's just the alzheimers talking, but if I didn't have a photo record of what all happened earlier in the weekend, I'm not sure how much I could recall. You may have seen these things in Australia and New Zealand...well, on TV in those places. Anyway, they had a couple of boats designed in New Zealand specifically for them, dropped a 650 horsepower chevy 502 in there, and put it in the hands of an expert driver on Fontana lake. For $25 they take you out and violate the water for 30 minutes. The boats are designed to be very loose, so they drift sideways beautifully, but at anytime he can put a little more turn on it and whip it around into a spin. You'll get a little splashy-splash on ya, not too much, but you may not want to wear your leathers on there. The outside seats seemed to be the best, because he skims along the edges of the lake and you get to see the stuff flying right at you. They've got directions on their site, but all you have to do is go into Robbinsville, and follow the signs toward Bryson City. About 30 minutes later it'll be on your right...small, bright-green building with purple writing. They're also bringing their boats up to Fontana Village in September for the Lean on the Dragon event. |
