Wednesday - June 9, 2004 Well as you may have heard, last weekend was pretty well fubar'd at the Gap. Expect the typical police overkill the next few weeks. I got the shots from Talladega uploaded into the store fine, but while uploading last weekend's shots from the Gap, the high-speed wireless system went down, (yo) so I'll try again today. Hang in there folks. This weekend is the annual Cherohala Challenge bicycle ride. Expect about 300 bicycles to cross the Gap early Saturday, then head over to the Cherohala Skyway to pedal across that....and people think WE'RE crazy. Also this weekend we have the R1-forums' yearly romp. We've been asked by Super Street Bike magazine to get a few shots of the R1 bunch for a feature they are doing, so be sure to spit-shine those sickles. You may recall I directed you to the preview of the movie/documentary Faster a few weeks ago. Well the DVD was recently released and I gave it a watch last night. It's pretty entertaining, and shows a lot of behind-the-scenes activities of Moto GP racing. There is a lot of time spent on Rossi, Biaggi, and Hopkins, along with many veterans like Doohan, Rainey, and Schwantz. It's put together pretty well, just a bit excessive on the dialog for my taste, and some of the race footage is repeated repeatedly. What racing it does show is pretty classic stuff though...Biaggi elbowing Rossi, Rossi flipping off Biaggi mid-corner. As the film wrapped up and started rolling credits, I was pretty pleased with what I had seen so far, then they started talking about street riding. Appearantly they asked all the racers what their opinions were of street riding, then captured the responses. Of course they all denounced it, as predicted, but then after the credits finished rolling, there is a scene of several racers getting on their bikes and riding down the street, doing burnouts in front of throngs of people with no helmets on. Ooookayyy. I guess if it was my job to ride on the track, and I had to do it 5 days a week, and didn't have to pay anything to ride on the track, then I wouldn't have much use for riding on the street either. But you'd have to be pretty out of touch with reality to think there are enough trackdays in the world to satisfying the riding needs of just one average sportbike rider. In other news, I just found out about this Supermoto/Xtreme sports event being held in Cherokee this August. It's called Cherokee Challenge and looks to be a pretty serious production, with Supermotard racing, BMX/Skateboard/In-line competitions, and Freestyle Motocross events. Keith and I will definitely be attending that one. We have a TON of highlights from the Gap last weekend, but first check out a few killer shots my partner Keith Norrod got at STT's Talladega trackdays last weekend... Sick lean angles Stokes nearly had his elbow on the tarmac for the camera. Other guy...well, he got his elbow down I guess. My sympathies baby. Moving on to some Gap stuff, this series of shots pretty much sums up the weekend. He was pretty cool about it though, and actually came out pretty good. The bike was rideable, and he only had a broken rib...probably wouldn't have had that if he'd been wearing leather pants. The denim is just too grabby and made him tumble. Culprit-probably cold tires. He had just pulled out and went down the road a bit to turn around for some shots. A few Subarus came out, but I didn't see as many as I thought I would. Seemed like more last year. This is a T-Rex. ZX-12R powered, 1.9 lateral G, $43,000US. And that is Mr. Bean. STT instructor and Gap local Brad always looks good. Kentucky boys looking good. "Old Guy" Les from Florida looking even better. =P Motards and dirtbikes are getting more common. This poor guy from Colorado came out to the Gap and got trapped in it...he was stuck here all day. Wheeler took off in his Fiero for a Sunday drive. Very subtle license plate...get it? I love the little fire extinquisher on the truck full of propane. New local Tyler crankin' his Ducati. Sometimes traffic is just ridiculous. Freakiest SV evar. (sorry I don't have more shots of SVs up here...there were tons) I bet people still pull out in front of the yellow bike. Rollercoaster - Choppah! Father and Son Beemers. (just kidding guys ;) Well that's about it. My apologies to the modem surfers...I hope the shots were worth the wait...let me know! |
