Wednesday - April 14, 2004 It's snowing. What tha hell? So you may have heard about the rider who lost his life last weekend at the Gap. He appearantly was too hot going into the blind, sharp right-hander just past the stone wall pull off, which is about 1 1/2 miles in from the state line heading toward the overlook, and slid into the lane of oncoming traffic...where a poor guy in a Ford Ranger happened to be. Sucks for both of them. So now these guys... ...will be around for the next few weeks telling us to be safe...writing tickets for exceeding the artificially lowered speed limit. (55 to 40 now 30) That shot is from last weekend...and there is a 2-story high cliff wall on the inside of that turn. Why is it okay for people to lazily drive all over the road, but no one is allowed to pass anyone for 16 miles? How screwed up is that? If you get behind some leaf-looker who decides to drive 10mph and doesn't feel like pulling over, you're legally stuck behind them for an hour and a half. If they come in and start shooting radar, everyone should just go park it. Feel free to bring camcorders or microcassette/personal voice recorders along on your ride so you can document any harassment. Considering it has been a year and a half since the last fatality on the Gap, and there have been about a million motorcycles pass through that road in that time, it's statistically one of the safest places in the world to ride. The only real danger to yourself is yourself...and of course the vehicles in the wrong lane. This weekend is the S2000's Wake the Dragon event. Keith and I will be at Talladega GP track shooting a couple of trackdays for SportbikeTrackTime, but my partner Chris Greer from Dragaknee.com will be covering the Gap, so ya'll spread out and give him time to shoot each of ya! =) Here are some shots from last weekend: A small group of VWs came through Mean touring bikes More damn Canadians $80,000 worth of sportbikes in the first shot - Ray and Mary's R7s. This cat came up in his "beater" to get some practice for next weekend's S2000 event. (he's got a S2000 also) I guess it's like swinging the bat with the weight on it...it'll make driving the other car that much easier. ;) Gap regular Chandler came down from WV...looking good baby. Hooligans A commercial for Goodys (clothing stores) was shot Friday down by the lakes. Nice rides |
